Get Yourself A Pine Box, Cause Nobody Follows The Killer….

Hi Y’all,

Yesterday, I rewatched one of my new all-time favorite movies, Walk The Line, again. It is one of the better movie bio-pics of a musician ever made. It does a great job of telling the story of the life & love affair of Johnny Cash/June Carter Cash.

Joaquin Phoenix & Reese Witherspoon both do an amazing job in their respective roles and don’t let down in their singing of the materials songs. The soundtrack from the movie has them singing on it and is pretty good in its on right. So rent this one if you haven’t already, cause its just that good…..

Apparently, I’m An Evil Genius……

Hi Y’all,

Here is another in my series of quizzes that I post on here: “What Family Guy Character Are You? – http://www.quizfarm.com/test.php?q_id=68125&first=yes

Apparently, I scored as Stewie Griffin at 76%, with Glen Quagmire/ Peter Griffin tied at 75%.

So I guess I’m an Evil Genius with a side of Horndog and a dash of Jolly, Fat Guy in the mix.

Oh Well, Giggitty, Giggitty, Gig-gi-ty Oh Yeah!

And fellas, rumor has it that she has a twin sister…….

Why Do We Fall….

Hi Y’all,

For those of you who have read the latest issue of 52, what did you think about the Booster & Elongated Man scenes? In those few page, they set up E-man as a hardcase & paved the way for Booster to either go out in a blaze of glory or, (hopefully) be the man to redeem himself. Just shows you what good writers can do in a minimum of pages…..

Now Let Me Tell You About The Time I Almost Died…

Hi Y’all,

Last night of FX, FALLEN, a great little movie from 1998 starring Denzel Washington, John Goodman & (A pre-Sopranos) James Gandolfini, came on. Now for some reason, everytime this movie comes on I have to watch it. It’s just a good little movie.

Denzel stars as John Hobbes, a police detective who was on the trail of a serial killer. The killer is executed, but crimes continue in his style. Denzel goes on to find out that he is really chasing a body-hopping demon named Azazel who changes bodies by touch. This movie has a great twist at the end…….

Mister, Will You Play With Us….

Hi Y’all,

Last night I watched the new remake of The Hills Have Eyes (unrated version). Man that movie is messed up. The contrast between the beauty of the desert (& Emily De Raven/Vinessa Shaw)and the warped-ness of the mutant/cannibals will throw you. You got to give the makeup people their props. The opening titles were a trip, too…

What did you think about the remake?

Getting My Netflix On…

Hi Y’all,

Being the Netflix Monkey that I am, I am constantly watching movies. The last two that I watched lately were pretty good.

The first was a little gem from 2002, Imposter, based on a Philip K. Dick Sci-fi short story. Gary Sinese plays Spencer Olham, a brilliant weapons designer who is believed to have been replaced by a clone who has to go on the run to prove that he is who he says he is. Or is he?

The second, Four Brothers, I saw Beau Smith raving about it on his column at Silver Bullet so I decided to put it on my pull list. It was a good flick about 4 adopted brothers who come back to their old neighborhood to find out who killed their mother. It is one of the better done revenge movies I have seen with good performances by Mark Wahlberg, Andre (3000) Benjamin, Tyrese Gibson and Terrance Howard. Beau was right. It kicks much butt.

Give’em a rent if you get the chance.

Luthor’s Lovely Lady Of The Week #2-Kate Beckinsale…

Hi Y’all,

This Week’s LLLOTW is the British beauty Kate Beckinsale. This weekend I watched the new Underworld:Evolution movie. Now I wasn’t really too blown away by the first one(with it’s similarities to White Wolf’s World of Darkness games), but then again anything with the lovely Kate in skintight black leather will always get my ticket money. Anyway, this one was better than the first (and got away from a lot of the first movie’s “borrowings”).

She is most famous for her roles in Pearl Harbor, The Underworld series(Underworld, Underworld:Evolution) & Van Helsing. She is going to have a new movie coming out with Adam Sandler, so look for it when it come to theaters….

The Avenging Babe Of Atlantis…

I am really looking forward to this news series set to come out from Marvel. It tell about the “1950’s” Avengers from the old What If story. They are brought back into 616 continuity as the Agents of Atlas. They reunite in the modern day to combat a major menace.

I look forward to picking this up especially since they announced this weekend that the mysterious 5th member is the long-thought dead Namora, the cuz of Namor!

I have always wished that Marvel would do more with their Invaders/pre-FF golden age characters. Hopefully this mini does really well….

So Did Anything Major Happen This Week?

Hi Y’all,

You know as much as I thought that I would completely hate the idea of Spidey unmasking, the more I think about it the more I think I want to see the stories that would come from it. As long as they hit the reset button later…

One of my main problems with the current Marvel “brain-trust” has been the whole “If It Ain’t Broke, Break It” mindset of the Quesada/Bendis/Millar regime. If they do these incredible stories that change the status quo to tell some great tales, then they really should put the toys back in the box later unharmed.

It’s when they don’t put them back in the box, that bothers me. (ala Scarlet Witch’s @%#$&*!%*#@ by Bendis, Hawkeye’s MIA status also by Bendis, etc). Hopefully, they will work this out for the best…

Exterminate, Exterminate, Exterminate……

Hi Y’all,

Back when I was a young’un, I used to love to watch the old Tom Baker shows of Doctor Who whenever they came on the TV. So when they brought back the new Doctor Who series on the Sci-Fi channel, I was looking forward to it very much. I have yet to be disappointed in the new version and I am very much waiting to see this coming season.

For me the true test of a re-vamp of something is if it makes me remember what I thought was cool about the original and want to go back and watch those again. Much like the new Battlestar Galactica made me want to watch the first one, this version of Doctor Who made me want to go back and watch the older ones. So being the Netflix Monkey that I am, I promptly added all the Dr Who disks to my pull list.

Christopher Eccleston give a good performance as the 9th doctor. Billie Piper is suitably yummy as his companion Rose Tyler. Their Dr Who adventures strike just the amount of sci-fi & British humor that this series needed.

The Sci Fi Channel is starting to put together quite a little roll with Dr Who, Battlestar Galactica, & the two Stargates. I hope they keep it up…..

Nothing To Fear, But Fear Itself….

Hi Y’all,

Just wanted to let y’all know about a great little title coming out of Image Comics- Fear Agent.

Fear Agent, written by Rick Remender & drawn by Tony Moore, is a great throw-back to the EC Comics era sci fi titles. It follows the adventures of the last surviving alien exterminator. It looks to be something that Wally Wood would be proud of….

Hi y’all,

So, Wonder Woman #1:

1. Donna Troy temporarily stepping up as WW. Cool.

2. Cheetah, Giganta & Psycho revamps. Cool.

3. Diana Prince. Cooler than cool.

4. Nemisis as her secret agent partner. Ice cold.

5. No more “Diplomat for peace”. Yay!

Heinberg is kicking butt on this relaunch. Does more to take WW back to greatness in one issue than many others did in the entire runs of WW.

Off The Leash & Running Wild….

Hi Y’all,

Cobb: Off The Leash- A new book by Beau Smith looks to be the kind of manly action comic that you don’t see much around anymore, and we are much the poorer for that lack. Beau’s new tale about a former Secret Service Agent who comes back to fight the Russian Mob looks to be a great action epic with a 24-type feel to it. I’m looking forward to it, plus Cobb looks like a grown-up Johnny Quest so he has to be cool after all….

I Got Myself A Gun…

Hi Y’all,

Now I maybe a little late to the party since the season finale for the Sopranos was a week or two ago, but I just ran across an interesting theory about this season of the Sopranos. I have heard from a lot of people that outside of the whole Brokeback Vito subplot, that not a lot has happened this season. This theory posits that the events of this season were to give everybody a chance to change, but being the Sopranos, that they all backslid. So with the exception of A.J.(who took the opportunity to change), that when the end run of the series comes, they have no excuse when the hammer comes down on them. Thoughts?

Oh Captain, My Captain…

Hi Y’all,

My all-time favorite character, Captain Marvel (Shazam) is back in a new 12-issue maxiseries -The Trials of Shazam!- set to drop in August (with a preview story appearing in June in DC’s Brave New World anthology), with art by Howard Porter and written by Judd Winnick. I will of course be picking this up on principle.

Here is a interview on Newsarama about their plans for the series- http://www.newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71004

Porter’s art in the previews is looking very good. The only question mark in my mind is Judd Winnick. Now I’m not one of the legions of fans who hate him with the fury of a thousand suns, but I am deeply ambivalent about some of his past work. Some of his work leaves me cold, but I have liked his past two stories about Cap- “Lightning Strikes Twice” and “First Thunder”. He seems to have a good modern handle on Cap, so I’m hoping for the best….

And A Thank You Goes To Deadwood…

Hi y’all,

I, for one, am enjoying the hell out of the burgeoning resurgence of Westerns in comics. So many good western comics are coming out nowadays or in the near future that I couldn’t be happier about it.

The new Jonah Hex DC Comics ongoing written by Jimmy Palmiotti/Justin Gray is kicking ass and taking names…

Vertigo is getting into the act with Loveless, an original ongoing following the saga of Wes Cutter, a former Confederate Soldier who returns home to his wife to find out that Reconstruction isn’t all that it was cracked up to be. Written by Brian Azzarello, who terms it “Bonnie & Clyde on horseback”, It look to be a winner for Vertigo…

And the coming multi-month Marvel Westerns event, which will bring some of today’s hottest creators together with Marvel’s great western characters looks to be a hoot…

So thank you Deadwood!

In The Comet’s Wake…

Hi Y’all,

This November DC Comics are bringing back a great old character and a great old title that I’m really looking forward to- Mystery In Space (Starring Captain Comet).

It is a 8 issue mini written by Jim Starlin (who can bring the big sci-epics) with the art being done by Shane Davis. So far from the previews, Shane’s art is looking cool and the updated tweaks to Cap’s costume look good.

Captain Comet is a criminally underutilized character who I always felt if given the right push could be a major player in the DCU. Let’s hope this starts the push….

Hi y’all,
Welcome to the inaugural edition of Luthor’s Lovely Ladies of the Week. I thought I would start this one off with my current favorite actress, Miss Jessica Alba.

Hail To The King, Baby…

I don’t know about you, but I’m really looking forward to the return of Marvel Comic’s The Eternals. One of Jack”The King” Kirby’s criminally underused creations, is coming back this year as a collabaration between Neil Gaiman (The Sandman, 1602) and John Romita Jr (The Sentry). Romita’s art is one of the first that I have seen in a long time that can actually carry the mantle of the King. Let’s hope that this leads to a higher profile in the Marvel Universe for the Eternals….

Take My Love, Take My Land, Make Me Where I Cannot Stand…

Hi y’all,

If you’re one of the few people out there who still have’nt been turned on to the late great Joss Whedon show Firefly, who haven’t saw the movie Serenity or read the Dark Horse comic book Serenity:Those Left Behind, then you need to get yourself to the Dvd/ Comic book store.

It was a great show that didn’t get a chance to spread its wings, because some marketing genius at Fox scheduled it on Friday nights at 7:oo, thereby ensuring that the target demo would of course not be there. Then they showed many of the episodes out of order, which is always a smart thing to do with a sci-fi show. It lasted one season, but it was a hell of a season. It was a great blend of Science Fiction and Westerns. It went out in a blaze of glory.

But, Joss Whedon, the shows creator got it made into a movie after being cancelled. Which is no small feat. The Movie Serenity is also a great capper to the tv series. The graphic novel follows the time in between the end of Firefly and the start of Serenity. It is a good little story on it’s on.

Firefly will always have a special place in my heart, because during the time it was coming on, I used to watch it with my grandfather before he passed. He was in fading health, but he always got a kick out of the show. It was something that we both got a kick out of. He especially liked the theme song that opened the show. Me Too. Now everytime I hear it I think of him and smile.

P.S. Take this quiz, “Which Serenity Character are You?” at:

http://quizfarm.com/test.php?q_id=79387

I apparently scored as Capt. Mal Reynolds at 88%, next up were Simon Tam, Zoe Alleyne Washburn, and The Operative all tied at 87%. Interesting…

The Force Is Strong In This One….

Hi Y’all,

Just wanted to let everyone know about the new Star Wars comic book series coming from Dark Horse Comics. Star Wars: Legacy is set in a new era that Dark Horse/Lucasfilms is opening up in the far future (100+ years after) of the SW timeline. It is written by John Ostrander (of Suicide Squad/ The Spectre fame) with art by Jan Duursema. It looks to have many new exciting elements brought into the setting, such as:

1. Cade Skywalker, the main character, who is a direct descendant of Luke Skywalker, who although trained in the Jedi Order- walked away from it for the life of a bounty hunter.

2. A newly invigorated Empire- which is not completely evil, mildly benevolent but still filled to the brim with scheming villains.

3. Three, count them three different Force-using orders – The Jedi Order, A newly organized Sith Order( no longer bound by the rule of Two) and the Imperial Knights ( a Group of Jedi who work for the New Empire).

All these sound like great ideas that have the chance to make this series a worthy addtion to the great Star Wars brand of high adventure. Check it out if you get the chance!

That Old Black Magic….

Hi Y’all,

This weekend while babysetting my teenage nieces and nephew, we rented the 2005 Kate Hudson movie, ” The Skeleton Key”. It didn’t recieve much attention when it came out but it was a excellent little movie. Kate plays Caroline Ellis, a home care worker from New Orleans who moves into a old southern home to take care of a elderly man. In the process, she gets pull into a complex web of Lies, Misdirection, and Voodoo/Hoo-Doo. Kate and all the other actors give great performances and the movie has a very great twist ending. If you get a chance, rent it!

Earth-3 Luthor I Guess…

Hi Y’all,

I named this blog after one of my favorite lines from one of the late, great Justice League Unlimited episodes. The one where The Flash and LL change bodies. Flash trying to act like old Lex was funny as hell.

That, and an old ex-girlfriend once told me that personality-wise that I was like a “good” version of Lex Luthor. Still not quite sure how I feel about that one, but she was dang hot, so I let it pass at the time….
